The Walkers are back again

“The Walking Dead” is a popular zombie thriller that has been airing on AMC since October 31, 2010, and on October 12, 2014 it started its fifth season.

A small town sheriff, named Rick, wakes up from his coma only to discover that the world is littered with flesh eating corpses. Desperate to find his family, Rick ventures out into this unknown world making a few friends along the way trying to reach Atlanta.

There he discovers a group of survivors who take him back to their camp, where he finds his wife Lori, his son Carl, and his best friend Shane.

Regarding the first season tenth grader Brooklynn Anderson said “It kept me on the edge of my seat.”

Since then the show has spread to all manner of places, from simple city streets to peaceful fields, each area managing to look more decrepit than the last thanks to props and special effects.

But changing the scenery isn’t the only thing special effects do. The people in the effects department are also in charge of making the blood splatter when a walker dies, making Michonne’s sword real, and causing buildings to collapse.

Makeup also contributes to the experience. Without it the walkers would look old fashioned and cheap. However makup can’t do everything. Robotics have to be used for the special walkers such as the walker from the well and the walkers from the vine wall.

“I think the zombies are cool because they’ve got lots of blood and are missing body parts,” said tenth grader Angelica Macias.

This season Rick, Carl, Michonne, Daryl, and the rest of their group have been taken captive in a new and hostile compound called “Terminus.” No one can say what awaits them, but from the welcome they received, it can’t be good.
