Perry has confirmed the “beef” between the two that has been going on for the past few years. Taylor Swift and Katy Perry, once good friends, quickly became enemies. Things had gone from bad to worse after Swift released her song “Bad Blood”.

Swift and Perry didn’t start on a bad note, in fact, they used to be very close friends. For a five-year time period, the two singers would tweet out compliments and birthday wishes towards one another. One example is the birthday tweet Swift sent out about Perry’s birthday party which said,” @Katyperry knows how to throw a birthday party! I would even go as far as to say it was party-licious. Best EVER. Happy bday , pretty girl!” Perry had even made a stop at Swift’s tour to perform her song “Hot ‘n cold”.  Everything seemed at peace until a conflict between backup dancers had occurred.

Perry showed no fear in discussing her view of the conflict on James Corden’s the Late Late Show. “There’s a situation. Honestly, it’s really like she started it, and it’s time for her to finish it,” said Perry,”It’s about backing dancers, there were three backing dancers.I tried to talk to her about it and she wouldn’t speak to me.” According to Perry, the feud happened after Taylor’s backup dancers had asked Perry if they could be apart of her upcoming tour. Perry agreed, but under the agreement that they leave a notice before parting with Swift.

Once the time came for Perry’s tour, the dancers went to leave their notice but ended up getting fired.  “I do the right thing any time that it feels like a fumble. It was a full shutdown and then she writes a song about me, and I’m like, OK, cool, cool, cool, that’s how you want to deal with it? Karma!” said Perry,” I think personally that women together, not divided, women together will heal the world.”

Junior, Raeliegh Thomas connects with Perry’s side of the feud and shares her thoughts. “Man, I think that’s messed up,” Thomas said,”I think it’s messed up for a woman, in general, to diss on other women because, honestly, we are supposed to be united as women and not bring other women down just because you want to bring yourself up.”

Though Swift has not made a complete open statement referring to Perry, many are led to believe that she “Bad Blood” was about her feud with Perry. This year, Perry released her song “Swish Swish” which many believed to have hinted hate towards Swift.

Sophomore student, Isaiah Nyoul, had mixed emotions about the feud between the two artists. “Basically, what I know is they’re acting like a bunch of high schoolers arguing over twitter, because of some beef that happened a couple of years ago,” said Nyoul. Though Nyoul views the feud as ridiculous, he stays on the side of Taylor Swift. “She finally standing up for herself in a way with like how her new song [says] ‘look at what you made me do’, now she’s kind of just like I’m not going to stand for it anymore”. Said Nyoul.

The feud still continues and many fans of each artist eagerly wait to see what comes next.
