Player Profile: Gabe Johnson

Gabe Johnson is a junior on the Boys’ Golf team. Johnson has been golfing since he was about five years old.

Johnson began golfing when his dad took him, and he continued to golf as he got older. He even plans to continue golfing later on in his life.

There are always pros and cons of being a part of sports teams. “It can be tough because you always have to be thinking about the next shot and how you’re going to play it, always thinking on the fly,” said Johnson, “Playing with different guys from different schools and the guys from my own school is just really fun.”

Johnson said, “In golfing, the competition when playing in a tournament can be pretty tough. Particularly the mental side of it because you always have to be thinking of your next shot and always having to be thinking on the fly.”

Although Johnson is highly invested in golf, his passions aren’t limited to the one sport. Johnson is also a catcher on the baseball team here at Taylorsville and spends about ten months involved with baseball.

Johnson is almost an Eagle Scout. Outside of multiple sports and extracurricular activities, Johnson enjoys time with his family and friends.

“Golfing is just a lot of fun, and it’s something that you can play your whole life pretty much. There are guys playing until they’re like eighty of ninety years old,” said Johnson.

Although golfing seems like such an easy sport and fun activity, there are some things to know beforehand. “There are five or six complete days of missed school, so you have to be on top of your grades and you’ll have a lot of fun.”

Golfing is not just limited to boys. In fact, Taylorsville has a Girls’ Golf team that will be starting up in the Spring.
