The Taylorsville High School football team faces a challenging season, currently holding a record of 1-7. Their last game against Kearns was their first win of the season and they won by one score. The team’s most recent 70-6 loss is not a new experience for this team, and it highlights all the struggles on both offense and defense. Despite the setbacks, the team looks forward and is ready for Hillcrest in their next game. This article explores the factors that led to the struggles and efforts being made to change things around for the rest of the season.
Offensive Challenges and Adjustments
One of the primary challenges has been the offensive side of the ball. According to Maxpreps.com the offense has a hard time with their running game and generating passing yards. One main problem is inexperience at quarterback, with a recent transfer, the new quarterback is trying to find his place within this offense. Coaches are changing the playbook and disciplining the team more than usual, and trying to find a new strategy. This is a main priority for the team, and the coaches are worried about getting the offense into gear.
Defensive struggles
The defense is another large issue the team is seeing more and more frequently as the team moves on. The secondary is not adjusting to plays and they are just letting every offense run over them. The adjustments are not being focused as hard into defense as it is offense. From an anonymous player on the team “the coaches are more focused on getting the offense into drive and moving down the field than they are worried about getting stops on defense. But the defensive coaches are putting the team to work and trying to get on pace for Hillcrest this Friday.
How high are the hopes?
In their last two games of the season, they are going to play both Hillcrest High School and Hunter High School. There is a large chance for both of these games to be a battle for both teams if they understand what these games mean to them. Win more games and enter the playoffs with a higher seed(how high they are placed). All it takes is one game to lock it down and build up the momentum they need to carry them through the next few games and then the playoffs.
Playoff chances.
The coaches need to make drastic changes in the way they run the team, especially with playoffs coming up. The biggest games of some of the boys’ lives are coming up and I and all the other Taylorsville students would love to see them win. A decision needs to be made and a quarterback needs to step it up. The defense has to be locked down and everybody needs to do their job and follow their assignments. At the end of the day football is just all about who wants it more and the question is how bad does Taylorsville want it.
