Snarknado: Responsibility, an issue with the student body

Snarknado: Responsibility, an issue with the student body

Keely Valdez, Assistant Editor October 8, 2015
In the hallways, there’s always the chatter of the last weekend or this coming weekend, what plans are being made, the usual talk of a newly-released video game, and the latest gossip. More frequent, however, is the talk of what the tyranical mother forced them to do is included in casual conversations.

School often provides students with escape from less-than-ideal home lives

Bryttni Furubotten, Reporter October 8, 2015
Even those students with the best of home lives all have difficulties in their lives. Many students have more severe issues than others but that doesn't make anyone's struggles less real. Students often wonder whether or not teachers recognize this.

Megan Breneman, Assistant Editor October 8, 2015
Whether it’s once a year, monthly, weekly or daily, almost everyone has checked their horoscope at least once. Horoscopes range from being checked religiously to once in a lifetime. There may be a good many reasons one may choose to rely on what someone else predicts for them.

Kylee Warren, Reporter October 8, 2015

Staff Editorial: Celebrating with Krampus

Warrior Ledger Staff December 17, 2014
Here comes the time of year to spread holiday cheer and douse ourselves in unholy fear. Santa makes his way through chimneys to leave charitable gifts for all the good little children as Krampus slips into the rooms of all the naughty ones to drag them off and devour them the next day.
Stress of applying for college discourages students from aiming high

Stress of applying for college discourages students from aiming high

Leiani Brown, Editor in Chief December 17, 2014
It’s winter again, which—for colleges all across the nation—means recruiting time. Well-designed, personal flyers begin to pop up in the mailbox, and email inboxes overflow with messages flowered by phrases like “You’ve been selected” and “A student of your potential,” all sounding creepily intimate and borderline desperate.

Transgender is an umbrella term that describes a diverse group of people whose gender identity or expression differs from the gender they were assigned to at birth. According to University of California Los Angeles School of Law’s Williams institute, an estimated 700,000, or 0.3% of adults identify as transgender in the United States.
Gender is more than male and female

Gender is more than male and female

Jem Ashton, News Editor December 17, 2014
Gender is often seen as a binary subject, you’re either male or you’re female and whichever gender you are is decided by whichever parts you had at birth. Rather than viewing gender as a physical attribution, it should be viewed as an expression of how people identify with themselves. This doesn’t only apply to people transitioning from one of the two predominating sexes to the other, it also applies to people who don’t feel a strong connection to either gender and choose to define themselves as third-gendered, gender-fluid, or neutrois. Whether they identify as female and male simultaneously or as neither, non-binary people do exist.
Police force becomes overly weaponized

Police force becomes overly weaponized

Jem Ashton and Jasper Ramirez December 17, 2014
Tear gas is a chemical weapon that has been banned in warfare since 1993, but it is still allowed to be used against our own citizens by our overly weaponized police forces. There is no reason for an officer to be more weaponized than a soldier. They are not an army, and giving the police our surplus military supplies has only increased the rates of violence and murder in the United States. The Icelandic police forces have only killed one person since the foundation of their country in 1944, but the United States faces at least 400 deaths at the hands of police forces every year.
Mental illness stigma is harmful to students

Jasper Ramirez, Art Editor December 17, 2014
ccording to the Kim Foundation, an estimated 57.7 million people, or one in four adults, suffer from a diagnosable mental illness in a given year.
